THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
With summertime here, those who live at Linden Ponds remain on the go, filling their schedules with travel family, and entertainment.
Local entertainment
With most community activities continuing in full swing, those who stay home have plenty to do even while others head for vacation homes.
“There’s plenty of people around,” says Louise Stitt. As chair of the Events Committee at Linden Ponds, Stitt plans at least two big events—from musicians to magicians—each month. This summer community members made use of the patio outside of the Acorn Pub for weekly barbecues, complete with musical entertainment.
“We have residents that are very active in everything; they want to keep doing and going, and going keeps us young,” Stitt says.
Maine bound
Warren and Dorothy Noble made sure to stick around for Linden Ponds’ annual gala this June before heading off to the family compound in Sebago, Maine. Mr. Noble has been going to Sebago for 68 years, since the cottage belonged to his parents. Today, he looks forward to fishing with his grandson, kayaking, and using his workshop there.
Summers aren’t the only time the Nobles spend traveling. They sneak off to Florida for the winters, but Mr. Noble returns home to Hingham at least twice a month to serve on the board of Hingham Institute for Savings.
“This makes just an ideal base,” Mr. Noble says. When he returns from his trips, Mr. Noble says someone from Linden Ponds’ transportation department is waiting to pick him up and dinner from one of the community’s restaurants awaits him. He adds: “The day will come when Florida won’t be as attractive as it is right now, and it doesn’t bother us a bit because we’ve got Linden Ponds.”
Friends in many places
Norman and Drusie Jenkins also opt for a change of scenery, spending their summers in their home of 25 years in Chatham, Mass., which they kept as a vacation home.
