On May 27 Cedar Crest resident Bill Alvine (pictured below right) was honored by the University of New Haven for his 60 years of service in the forensics engineering field.
Alvine uses his expertise to inform future forensic scientists and the public of the industry truths as a special assistant to the dean at the University of New Haven’s Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.
As one of the first forensic investigators to enter the field, Alvine founded and directed independent forensic science laboratories in New Jersey and Florida, authored case and litigation history novels, and became renowned in the industry.
Alvine was recognized in a ceremony at Cedar Crest where he was presented with a plaque commemorating his years of service.
“Bill’s contribution to the field of forensic science has been profound, especially since his work in forensic engineering as applied to the field of fire science was among, if not the very first scientific application on record,” says University of New Haven Dean Thomas Johnson (pictured upper left). Also pictured are Alvine’s brother Robert (upper right) and his friend Colleen Canavan (lower left).
