“There are so many amenities we will enjoy at Henry Ford Village,” says Anne Riggio. She and her husband, Paul, will move to the Erickson community in Dearborn from Farmington next month.
The Riggios looked at several retirement communities before deciding on Henry Ford Village. Initially, the two joined the community’s priority list, a way for people to reserve their place in line for the apartment home of their choice by placing a fully refundable deposit.
It didn’t take long for the Riggios to decide to move to Henry Ford Village. “Now is the time,” Mrs. Riggio says.
Looking forward to less maintenance
Soon, doing heavy chores and maintenance around the house will be a thing of the past for them.
“We are looking forward to not having to worry about cutting the grass or shoveling the snow,” Mrs. Riggio says. “My husband shouldn’t be doing half the things he’s doing now at the house.”
The couple chose a one-bedroom “Dover” style floor plan for its size and style. Having less unused bedrooms and bathrooms cuts down on cleaning and maintenance chores, and, Mrs. Riggio says, “I really like the openness of the apartment.”
Everything under one roof
The Riggios like the fact that so many handy services will be located right outside their door, such as the onsite medical center, transportation shuttles, postal center, restaurants, and a convenience store.
“It’s really nice,” Mrs. Riggio says. “They even have a bank … everything’s right there.”
An avid walker and exerciser, Mrs. Riggio is looking forward to using the community’s fitness center and swimming pool. She’s also grateful that the entire campus is linked by glass-enclosed, climate-controlled walkways. She can still take her daily walks even in the height of winter.
“At our house I use a treadmill during the winter,” she says. “I won’t need that at Henry Ford Village.”
