THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
Every time you turn on the television or open a newspaper someone is talking about how difficult it is to sell your home in a troubled housing market, especially in Michigan. Some retirees seeking to make the move to a community such as Henry Ford Village in Dearborn might think it’s hopeless, but there are other options.
Henry Ford Village offers a unique flexible pricing program, which offers retirees the option of making a smaller initial investment to secure their new apartment home, with a slightly higher payment for the monthly service package.
I went to Henry Ford Village to investigate their flexible pricing program, and here’s what I found:
Q. Do people have to sell their house before they move there?
A.
No. With a reasonably affordable option such as the flexible pricing program, you can leave your house for sale and move to Henry Ford Village like you’ve always wanted.
Q. How does the flexible pricing program work?
A.
It provides a sliding scale of a lowered entrance deposit in exchange for a slightly higher monthly service package cost. The monthly service package includes all utilities (except telephone), one meal a day in any community restaurant, and campus amenities.
Q. What kinds of apartment homes can people look at if they’re considering the flexible pricing program?
A. The flexible pricing program is applicable to studio and one-bedroom apartment homes at Henry Ford Village and is being offered for a limited time (it’s subject to review and renewal quarterly by the community’s not-for-profit board of directors).
We have found that there are many people who would love to move to our community, but they are hesitant to make the decision without knowing they will have the equity from their house to use as the entrance deposit.
