THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
“We get called a lot of things,” Nancy Lee Breece says with a hearty laugh about her group of friends who sew and share stories together. “But I guess we’re technically known as the Keystone Krafters.”
The group consists of 15 to 20 stitchers who meet every Monday afternoon in the lounge of the Keystone Clubhouse. The group advertises “crocheting, cross-stitching, quilting, and conversation” but they are a currently working on something bigger—“Knitting for Kids,” a charity project.
“There are other sewing clubs on campus,” Pene Riggs says. “But we wanted something in our neighborhood, in the Keystone Clubhouse, and we wanted to do some good for others too.”
The club has been knitting sweaters and sending them to Guideposts Magazine for distribution to needy children in distressed areas around the world. “This project was the perfect answer for us. I think we’ve sent about 15 or 16 sweaters out so far, but we’re always working on more,” Riggs says.
“It’s more than just finding time for a hobby you enjoy or working on your own little projects,” Riggs says. “It’s a chance to do a little good. And at the same time it’s a chance to catch up and socialize. We love talking, and it’s just fun being around so many quickwitted and positive people.”
“I look forward to coming each week,” Breece says. “It’s a fun group. We’re always laughing about something. It’s a chance to meet new people, catch up with friends, and unwind.”
“We’re the new kids on the block,” Riggs says of the recently formed club. “A lot of us are new here at Ann’s Choice, and this is a great way to meet some new faces and make some new friends. We’re always looking for members, and we’re open to everyone. There’s no commitment. All you have to do is show up when you can and bring a smile.”
