The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) says hearing loss is one of the most prevalent chronic health conditions in the U.S. It affects one-third of every 1,000 people and is the third most common chronic problem in people 65 and older.
Hearing loss prevalence increases with age, affecting 66 percent of people age 75-plus and 80 percent after age 85.
