Many retailers and providers of consumable electronic products/items are generally good in supporting and guaranteeing their 'wares'. Some, though, require either packaging and shipping or delivering non- or ill-performing items to a distant site or local 'dealer' to get malfunctions corrected.
As a matter of policy they either overlook the capabilities of their 'customers' in dealing with repair or correction of malfunctions or provide little or no direction/instructions in individual efforts in personally handling the problem.
Case in point --- I have a portable AM/FM radio/CD/cassette player supplied by RCA and made in China (isn't everything?). Due to unknown reasons (gremlins?) the cassette drive system 'laid back' and refuses to perform any longer. Yes, I'm one of the die-hards who refuses to give up his cassette medium entertainment. After at least a half-dozen tries to get info/directions on player parts/part-list/schematic/diagram from Internet sites which purport they provide help/guidance or RCA, itself, I come up empty and still can't enjoy my cassette player. RCA informs they do NOT have or provide any directions/part list/ schematic for my model radio. Talk about built-in obsolescence !!!
So, I'm to live out my days, sans cassettes, or lay out another piece of change to ship my 3 yr old unit to some place in this country or purchase another product to 'fill the gap' ?
Don't these manufacturers/dealers realize the value of seniors being able to 'hold their own' and our ranks are growing daily? |
