Now that a few more Democrats are announcing there plans to run for the presidency, who do you think are shaping up as the favorites for the primarys?  A lot of reports are pointing to Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama for the Democrats and Sen. McCain and Guiliani for the GOP, what are your thoughts?

On the Democratic side it's Hillary. To whatever extent one feels that Bill was a scoundrel, his strictly political legacy and continuing influence have been positive on balance; this will be a big + for Hillary, who would bring to the office a formidable comprehension of the Big Issues and access to her husband's moderating counsel - like Two Presidents in One. On the Republican side - although perhaps barely noticed across the media - talk show host Neal Bortz mentioned Newt Gingrich as his favorite for the Republicans - again we have an otherwise worthy choice hampered by a history of indiscretion. Bortz has some clout with listeners, no doubt. His "fair tax" or flat tax stance deserves a hearing which the Tax Industry dosn't want you to hear about. Why did Bill O'Reilly remark last month that the Flat Tax would not be a significant topic of discussion in 2008? Why not? Do you agree? Netanyahu's contention that Iran will bomb Israel with nuclear boms in 2 to 5 years. What should be the Allies' response? Immigration? Amnesty or no? What should constitute the US's Iraq Connection for the rest of the decade? These are just a few of the things I have been dwelling on. There is a grassroots effort from a group called Unity '08 to stimulate independent and independent-minded registered party members to communicate ideas and convictions for electing the best to our highest offices. May I submit an article on Unity '08 for your Erickson Tribune? I was quite pleased how your little paper so capably addresses many current issues of importance. Thanks, Steve Church St. Pete, FL
