Each vote does Count! You need to do some research, how many presidents have been elected by a verified minority? Please do the checking, perhaps at your local library, and give the answer in a reply.

I have read the article twice; could not find the poll at bottom of my article/display; have read all other respondents; offer two simple positions:

1. The composite wisdom within our founders has been reconfirmed 700 times through the wisdom of succeeding representatives and
2. Supporting evidence results when any would be president fails to garner support of/from the majority of states ( i.e. Gore's loss); AND any president looses his hearing of the majority of his support base ... congress directly elected by us common folk (i.e. Bush's Thumpin').

Footnote on the Thumpin': We thumped the president and somewhat balanced the power ... IF and ONLY IF the "collective they" now use more time for progress and less time stroking their egos ... while the media drowns us with endless "sound bite drivel". Bob

The Electoral College is total Ridiculous. We don't Vote for President, We vote for an anknow person, Who can vote for any body that he o she decide. Evrey vote count, is a BIG lie. People that are affraid that the big states are going to dominate, Why? Always will be to candidates whit a change to win 1 Democrat and 1 Repubican. Let the one with more votes to win.

The Electorial college is what saves America from the 'blue people' who tend to huddle as masses around the big cities.  But the blue people don't speak for the 'majority' of the American people.  They just tend to make the most noise and they want to change a system that has served us well for 230 years...!!  It keeps the balance of power spread across all the 50 states and not just in the hands of the 1/2 dozen big city states..!

Folks, we Americans survive in spite of our parents and politicians. Just reading the pros an cons of the Electorial College inspires met to realize that we the people run this country. I actually think that we voters a are smart enough to just vote and have each counted, and from that, elect a politician to office. Never the less, the freedom we have to exercise our opinions is the actual core of our democracy. Let us keep these debates alive and America will do quite well thank you.

Whether the Electoral College is continued really doesn't matter. The president is NOT elected to govern. The Congress is elected to govern and the president's job is to see that the legislation is carried out. But that's the trouble, isn't it? People and the Congress don't seem to understand that. Congress has abdicated its responsibility so it can duck the blame when things go wrong.

As you can probably tell, we've kept this story in the 'Top Stories' forum because of the wonderful responses everyone has been giving.  Unfortunately, the survey itself had to be restored and in the process all of the votes were erased.  The survey is back up now so feel free to vote again (or for the first time if you haven't had a chance yet)!
