Outlook comes from attitude. Stuff happens - how we deal with it is what makes the difference. Our outlook is an extension of mental health. Our bodies are complex and there is no easy answer. If we are depressed and don't get help, it eats at us like a disease. This "cancer" can cause digestion problems, ulcers, etc. I have heard that depression is anger turned inward. If we don't have a support system, it is sometimes difficult to get another perspective on our problems. Then we find outselves having a "pity party" which is not helpful and doesn't change the outcome.

If we do things to improve our physical body, such as exercise - be it swimming, line dancing, aerobics, or just a walk around the block, it releases endorphins which actually lowers depression, grief, pain, etc. If we can have an exercise or walking buddy, not only does the time go by more quickly, but we have emotional support at the same time. Even a pet - a dog who looks forward to and encourages our going out can immensely improve our outlook and mental health. It is part of a human need for connection.

So there is physical health, mental health, and spiritual health. Spiritual health is also very important. How we deal with grief, grudges, and our relationship with God not only affects our soul but our minds and bodies as well.
