Has anyone here ever had shingles?  Do you think it is a good idea for the government to implement a shingles vaccine for all Americans, 60-years old or older?

My mother had shingles in her 60s and it was extremely painful. I think it would be an excellent idea to implement a vaccine, as long as the sideeffects were not serious-- or as least less serious than the disease. I think shingles is the result of some disease when you are young but I am not sure what disease that is. Maybe chicken pox? Can anyone tell me.

I am 69. Last year I got shingles 3 hours after I got the flu shot. Went to doc... he gave me a prescrip that was quite expensive. Instead...I went home and looked up shingles in my Natural Remedies manual. Said to take full doses of Echinacea for the immune system and put Calamine Lotion on twice a day to dry it up. Was gone in 5 days. Cost me about a dollar. Shingles is an offspring of chicken pox.
