Yes, I want to weigh in on the above mentioned disease. I have been treated for high blood pressure for over 30 years. Not once has a Dr. taken any tests for the cause of the high blood pressure. They just keep changing the medication and shoving more pills down. Well, last week, I had a headache and tenderness around my eye, and then had blurred vision for a few seconds. After setting in the Dr's office for over 2 hours to see him, he said I needed immediate attention. Dr. sent me for a C-scan, to the ophthalmologist, took blood tests, and now I will have a vascular surgeon do a biopsy on my viens in both temples to see if I have Giant Cell Arteritis disease. A simple blood test, maybe the last time I saw the Dr. about my high blood pressure, could have resulted in knowing if I was borderline for this disease. It requires taking prednisone for l to 2 years.
I agree that we need more geriatric doctors, here in Florida we old people set for hours to see a doctor, sometimes that's why we don't bother to go. I hope someone finds a way to change our health situation, and shame on Congress for cutting the budget. I have a grandson in Med-school, in Gainsville, Fl., and he is thinking in specializing in orthopedics, maybe I can sway him in to geriatrics. Thanks for listening. Betty Vidas, bvidas@verizon.net
