| I used to lead treks to the Everest Base Camp and was a founder of the first hut-to-hut system in Nepal. In the area during the worst storm in memory, I was appalled at world press coverage of the foreigners who died with no mention of the Sherpas who also perished. I discovered no one had ever written fiction about their culture to dramatize their lives. Beyond the Summit does just that. Readers tell me they are fascianted by all they learn about this tribe living in the high Himalayas. The elements of culture and religion are carefully woven in the plot of a love affair between an American journalist and Sherpa guide, an Everest expedition from a porter's point of view, Buddhist rituals, Tibetan refugees, and conflict between generations as the young Sherpas desire what the modern world brings and their fathers try to preserve traditions. The book is available on my web site. www.beyondthesummit-novel.com, on amazon.com, and through Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores. |
