When it comes to the latest retirement community features, Wind Crest is already offering what industry experts predict tomorrow’s retirees will want. From its luxury cruise-ship feel to the latest conveniences and amenities, this community seems to have hit the bull’s-eye.

Staying a step ahead
In 2007, the Dallas Morning News reported that tomorrow’s communities will take their cues from hotels, mimicking well-appointed, service-oriented resorts. And architects predict that tomorrow’s retirees will want full kitchens, barrier-free showers, walk-in closets, Internet connections, lots of light, and shaded patios—all of which are standard at Wind Crest.

The latest generation of retirees will also seek multiple dining options, including cafes and short-order grills, reports the article “Senior Communities Take Cues from Resorts.” With a full-service, sit-down restaurant featuring several freshly prepared chef creations each night and a café off ering an array of hot and cold meals, salads, and snacks, Wind Crest makes freedom of choice part of everyday life, including dining.

Getting there faster
According to the article, building design is getting smarter too—and sprawling, single-story buildings that require a lot of walking are expected to give way to multilevel buildings with easy access to clubhouses and dining areas.

“With six floors per building, our residents can access everything within minutes,” says Jason Atwell, Wind Crest’s director of marketing.

Since retirees want to stay independent, demand is also expected to grow for in-home medical services. Wind Crest already offers a continuum of care known as Erickson HealthSM.

Wind Crest’s buildings have sold out in record time for a variety of reasons. For some, it’s the entrance deposit that is 100% refundable or the fact that no one pays for services they don’t want or need. Still others relish the 52,000-square-foot clubhouse, saltwater pool, and 24-hour fitness center.

For Barbara Neil, some of the greatest benefits of living at Wind Crest are the conveniences—from the on-site medical center and free shopping shuttles to the glass-enclosed, climate-controlled walkways connecting all buildings. “The climate-controlled walkways are a wonderful feature— especially when it’s really hot or cold outside,” she says.

Other bonuses that Wind Crest residents appreciate include a gated entry with 24-hour security guards who double as emergency medical technicians, an electronic medical records system available at no cost, and even nonoccupancy credits available to residents who will be gone for seven days or more.

When it comes to cost, Neil says her monthly expenses have actually gone down. “Between all the home maintenance costs I was paying, the utility bills, and other monthly expenses, I’ve found that it’s cheaper to live here,” she says.
