If you move in and realize you don’t need that extra TV, or you find out your coffee table is a bit too long, don’t fret—donate it to the Treasure Chest! And if you need something for your new apartment, check there first.
Like many other Erickson communities, Wind Crest has a “Treasure Chest” on campus, which consists of gently used furniture and décor sundries that need a good home. An everchanging variety of offerings is for sale, and all proceeds are donated.
“The Treasure Chest is an on-site resale store that’s open to residents and their families, as well as Wind Crest employees,” explains Community Resources Manager Sharon Prouse. All proceeds are kept in an account that’s disbursed by the Treasure Chest Committee, she says. And items that don’t sell within a reasonable time frame are donated to the Senior Resource Center and Goodwill.
Wind Crest’s Treasure Chest Committee, which includes around ten residents, awarded its first disbursement of $907.29 to the Alzheimer’s Association in support of the organization’s 2007 Memory Walk. In December, the committee divided its second disbursement four ways: It earmarked $500 for Wind Crest’s Benevolent Care Fund, $500 for Wind Crest’s Scholarship Fund, $500 for preliminary plans for on-site playground equipment, and $275 for the Huntington’s Disease Fund.
