Colorado’s winters can go from sunny and cool to near blizzard conditions in the blink of an eye, posing a serious driving hazard for anyone. But there’s no need for those who live at Wind Crest to endure icy roads or pay outrageous gas prices. They can save their energy and money for more important things—like travel and entertainment.
Wind Crest Transportation Supervisor Bob McDaniels says the free shuttle, group transportation, and “taxi-style” service make getting around safe, convenient, and worry-free. “Our residents can always count on their Wind Crest driver to be there when they need them.
Free rides do exist
Wind Crest’s free shuttle makes several prescheduled runs to various stores and malls during the week—with no appointments necessary. From the covered pickup area just outside the Town Center Clubhouse, residents can hop on board and go to a variety of destinations—Wal-Mart, Target, grocery stores, outlet shops, malls and shopping plazas, farmers markets, and more.
Pick your vehicle
Wind Crest has four vehicles to transport community members: an SUV that seats up to four passengers, two 14-passenger shuttle buses (wheelchair accessible), and one 25-passenger bus for larger groups. Special transportation is available on request with just a day or two of notice, says McDaniels.
For those who choose personalized “taxi-style” weekday runs in the SUV, the cost is $2 per mile plus a $2 surcharge. Riding along with another resident and splitting the cost makes this service even more affordable. And there’s an airport run for up to three people for just $70 plus tolls.
Bus service for larger groups is easy to arrange for special resident outings like casino trips, mountain excursions, local happenings, and cultural events—including this month’s trip downtown to see the musical White Christmas at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
