‘Peace of mind’ benefits make Erickson shine

THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Just as everyone has their favorite foods, music, and hobbies, most future Wind Crest community members have their favorite Erickson community features.

And although those features differ from person to person, “peace of mind” benefits are often touted as  the icing on the cake. For Galen and Mary Lou Middleton—who looked at many retirement communities prior to joining Wind Crest’s Priority List—one of the biggies was the 100% refundable entrance deposit. “We didn’t find that anywhere else,” says Middleton.

In addition to that feature, which provides an element of security, the  Middletons also find it comforting to know that their Wind Crest home will always be there for them. Erickson puts that in writing.

Your home
When you place a 100% refundable entrance deposit at Wind Crest, you receive more than real estate. You will have a “home for life”—the full  complement of services provided by Erickson Health®, coupled with the commitment to care for you no matter what happens to your financial position, ensuring that you have secured your future. In fact, no one has ever been asked to leave an Erickson campus because they were unable to pay. (More information about this commitment can be found in the Residence and Care Agreement.)

For the Middletons, this benefit is nothing to sneeze at. Like most people their age, they’ve worked hard for what they have. And they appreciate being able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the fruits of their labor—without the burden of unnecessary financial worries.

There if you need it
Don and Sharon Peckham, who are moving to Wind Crest from California, have a similar appreciation for Erickson’s “peace of mind” benefits—like  knowing they will have a home for life and that future medical support will be there, just in case.

“We’re young enough now that we can meet others and be just fine. If  something ever happens to one of us, it’s nice to know that skilled nursing care is in the master plan,” Peckham says. His wife echoes that sentiment.

“I like the security of knowing that our kids don’t have to worry about taking care of us if anything should happen,” she says. Beyond long-term care, plans are also in place for home health care within a couple of years, says Bridget Babcock, associate executive director of Wind Crest. And for those who need a temporary helping hand with non-medical tasks in situations such as post-surgery recovery, home care will be available right away.

“Home care provides our residents with intermittent assistance with things like bathing, dressing, eating, and medication management, until they’re back on their feet,” Babcock says.

Modern conveniences
Wind Crest strives to provide residents with an integrated array of amenities and programs to achieve and maintain optimal health. And if you should experience some unexpected bumps along the way, the campus will be there with benefits like physical therapy, available just steps from your door.

“At Wind Crest, community members will have the benefit of receiving physical therapy in the comfort and convenience of the fitness center,” Babcock says. After a resident’s course of physical therapy is complete, fitness center specialists can offer additional support. In this progressive “step-down” model, outpatient rehabilitation and wellness are combined to help people enjoy life at their personal best, she says.

Ongoing education
Wind Crest will also offer preventive care classes and workshops on keeping residents healthy and fit. One such class is planned for this fall on maximizing core strength to cut down on the risk of falls and resulting fractures, says  Babcock.

For the Peckhams, the list of Wind Crest benefits is extensive. They appreciate everything from the medical offerings to the social opportunities to the resort- type amenities, and they can’t wait to experience it all after they’ve settled into their Kingston apartment.

And the staff has been delightful, Don Peckham says. “We’ve spent so much time with Kelly and Molly that they might as well join the family,” he adds with  a chuckle. “We don’t have any granddaughters.”
