Wind Crest, a new campus-style community being built in Highlands Ranch, is seeing an eruption of reservations, community officials said this month.

The community’s first residence building, Cottonwood Court, is sold out and the community’s second building, Blue Spruce Ridge, is approximately 70% reserved, Sean O’Connor, senior director of sales with Wind Crest, said. Both residence buildings are scheduled to open in 2007.

“It’s definitely moving fast since groundbreaking,” O’Connor says. “We are pleased with the interest in the community. It’s going even faster than we had anticipated. Each day we’re accepting reservations and making good progress with construction.” O’Connor did not estimate when the community will be sold out.

Reasons to get excited
Wind Crest, the 17th Erickson community, will tout a well-manicured, maintenance-free campus, covered walkways connecting buildings, a spacious clubhouse, a variety of amenities and value for the residents as its main features.

Over 63,000 people age 65-plus currently live within a ten-mile radius of the Wind Crest site and almost 200,000 live within 25 miles. Because of the high demand, Retirement Counselor for Wind Crest Molly Thorne-Dhieux recommends joining the community’s Priority List as the best way of being offered a home and avoiding a multiyear wait. “It gives the most options and is 100% refundable, so there’s no risk,” Thorne-Dhieux says.

The best option
The $1,000 refundable deposit gives the member precedence based on the date it was submitted. When the apartment of their choice becomes available, the Priority List member is given the right of first refusal. If the apartment is reserved, the deposited money is put directly into the cost of the apartment homes.

“The race is definitely to the swift,” Thorne- Dhieux says, “Every day that someone waits to join, one or two people jump in line ahead of them. If people are considering Wind Crest for next year, or even five years down the line, they should take a look at our free Information Kit and join the Priority List as soon as possible. Some apartment styles have wait times of several years already! It’s really your best option for getting the home you want.” Thorne-Dhieux added, “Unlike other communities, Wind Crest's priority date never expires. Even if your preferred home style has a long wait. And our priority date is transferable to any of the other Erickson communities across the country.”

A new view of retirement
Wind Crest is one of the newest Erickson communities. Currently over 18,000 people call an Erickson community home throughout the United States.

The founder and CEO of the company, John Erickson, has been a pio- neer in retirement living for over 25 years. Erickson has founded over 18 communities in 10 states with more on the way. He has become a champion for retirement living through the creation of a number of unique initiatives.

“The idea is to reshape America’s negative image of aging,” Erickson says of his vision.

To accomplish that goal, Erickson has created on-campus health care systems for better living. He also recently donated $5 million found the Erickson School of Aging at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Erickson also created Retirement Living, new television programming directed specifically to a retirement age audience.

All in the family
Erickson’s son, Craig will serve as Executive Director of Wind Crest, a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Erickson has served with the family business for years. He started at a young age in dining services but has spent time in Construction and Development, as Erickson’s Chief Information Officer, and as Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis. Most recently he served as Associate Executive Director of Erickson’s flagship community in Maryland.
