While meeting with over 40 people who join the Wind Crest Priority List each month, I frequently answer questions about Erickson HealthSM. This article offers insight into Erickson HealthSM, the health care and wellness program available to you at Wind Crest.

Q: What is Erickson HealthSM?

A: Erickson HealthSM, uniquely benefits residents of Erickson communities in many ways. Physical health, fitness, spiritual health, emotional well-being, and fun are key elements of Erickson HealthSM —providing the best and most advanced medical services for people age 62-plus.

Q:How does the on-site Medical Center operate?

A: The Medical Center at Wind Crest will operate just like a regular doctor’s office. Wind Crest will have an on-site medical practice that serves the needs of residents who chose our doctors due to their experience in the field and the amount of attention that they can offer their patients. Nationally, Erickson HealthSM employs 40 board certified physicians, who average over 14 years of experience serving a mature population when hired. Due to the professionalism and standards of care at Erickson HealthSM Medical Centers, specialists in orthopedics, cardiology, dentistry and other fields will regularly consult for residents.

A: When Wind Crest opens next summer, the Medical Center staff will include a Erickson HealthSM doctor, a nurse practitioner (NP), and a home health program. Nurse practitioners working in Erickson HealthSM are nationally certified in  geriatrics with years of experience. At Erickson communities the doctor-patient ratio is five times better than the norm. Compared to the 2,000 patient practices of some outside physicians, the 400 patient practice of a Wind Crest doctor allows for approximately 25 minute visits with each individual. During these longer appointments doctors and patients share more information leading to better care.

Q:Can I keep my own doctor?

A: Yes, taking advantage of the services offered by the Medical Center and the doctors employed that would be your choice. Remember, even if you don’t leave your doctor, the Wind Crest Medical Center can create an electronic medical record for you (with the help of your physician). In case of an emergency, those electronic medical records save other physicians valuable time and clearly indicate your medications, test results, and vital stats so you receive the best care possible.

Q:If I moved in, would I have to switch health insurance programs?

A: No, the Medical Center also accepts most insurance programs so you will be able to keep the coverage you have.
