THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
There is something for everyone at the first-ever Tallgrass Creek Treasure Chest sale.
Shoppers walk in to fi nd the space packed with furniture, dishes, stereo equipment, silver, dolls, Christmas ornaments, clothes, and collectibles. Some shoppers leave with one group of treasures and then return for more. With each sale resident Norma Farber, who is working the checkout, proclaims, “Thank you for shopping Tallgrass Creek!”
Working for a cause
Tallgrass Creek residents and staff spent more than a week sorting and organizing the merchandise. Many of the same people are at the sale, helping customers find items and check out.
The two-day sale, held May 2–3, raised more than $4,000 for the Tallgrass Creek Benevolent Care Fund, which ensures that residents never have to leave the community for financial reasons. The sale also provided Tallgrass Creek priority list members with an opportunity to clear out some of the items in their homes.
Help with downsizing
The event was organized in response to concern expressed by future residents. They shared with Tallgass Creek staff that when it came to downsizing, they didn’t know where to begin.
“We made it easy for them by sending a moving truck and a professional moving crew to their individual homes to assist with clearing out basements and attics,” says Suzanne Cole, director of marketing for Tallgrass Creek.
A group effort
The sale truly was a group effort. Cross Moving picked up the donated items, Regnier Management donated the space for the sale, Kansas City Closet Company donated fixtures for the sale, and Dirk Soulis provided pricing guidance on some of the more collectible items.
Unsold furniture and household items are being donated to a children’s charity.
