Time for outdoors
There is no better time than October to be outdoors in Kansas. Throw a jacket in the car and take off for some of the fun events happening in the area this month. Here are a few choices for autumn entertainment.

Ciderfest/Craft Fair at Louisburg Cider Mill
Louisburg, Kansas
Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7
The weekend’s festivities include handmade crafts, barbecue, live music, “old-fashioned good eats,” pumpkins, and many activities. Always enjoy fresh apple cider and shop at the gift store.

Maple Leaf Festival
Baldwin City, Kansas
Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21
Touted as the biggest fall family event in the area, the Maple Leaf Festival is scheduled to have 300 craft exhibits, quilt shows and displays, a carnival, performing arts, a parade, and food booths. Train rides will be available on the Midland Railroad.

Haunted Atchison Tour
Atchison, Kansas
Bus tours are at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in Sept. and Oct., and nightly Oct. 22–27 and 29–31
Tours begin at the Visitors Center in the Santa Fe Depot, 200 S. 10th Street. Stories of ghost sightings and mysterious happenings have given Atchison the title of “most haunted town in Kansas.” More than a dozen homes are found on this 45-minute trolley ride.
