Football season gets rolling in September, and for those who like to watch the gridiron, opportunities abound in the Tallgrass Creek area.
The Kansas City Chiefs are just a 30-minute drive from Tallgrass Creek. With a record of 9-7 last year, the Chiefs lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Super Bowl Champions Indianapolis Colts. Tickets aren’t inexpensive, nor always easy to come by. Check out www.kcchiefs.com.
Overland Park is in the heart of Big 12 college football. There are five Big 12 schools within 250 miles of Tallgrass Creek: the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Missouri University, the University of Nebraska, and Iowa State University.
Don’t forget the area’s small universities that bring just as much passion, if not as much fanfare, to the field. And of course, many local high schools play Friday nights. There’s nothing like a brisk evening with a loud band, enthusiastic cheerleaders, loyal fans, and a good football game. The Blue Valley, Olathe, and Shawnee Mission school districts are all close by. Blue Valley High School, about three miles to the southeast of Tallgrass Creek, was the 5A Kansas State Champion in football last year.
