Tallgrass Creek offers choices to fit everyone’s needs and budget

THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Joan Smith’s new home at Tallgrass Creek will be the perfect fit. With enough room to spread out, but not too much space to maintain, the one bedroom apartment is just what she needs.

Smith looked at other retirement communities in the Kansas City area before deciding on Tallgrass Creek.

“I had never seen anything quite like Tallgrass Creek before,” says Smith, who is moving to Overland Park from Bella Vista, Ark. “The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. It fit in my budget better.”

A good deal
It seemed like an even better deal when she considered all that she received for her monthly payment. Her daughter’s fiancé, a commercial real estate salesman in the Kansas City area, closely examined her information from Tallgrass Creek and declared that she had made the right decision.

“The one bedroom floor plans offered at Tallgrass Creek are part of the wide range of affordable options we have for retirement living,” says Jane McIntire, retirement counselor at the community. “The one bedroom apartments are spacious, and they have ample closet space. But you get more than an apartment at Tallgrass Creek. You get a community. And in addition to a comfortable home, you are connected to an enormous clubhouse and an enormous social network.”

Residents can walk down the climate-controlled walkways to find restaurants, a convenience store, bank, hair salon, classrooms, a TV station, and lots of places and opportunities to socialize. Health care will also be on-site, and Tallgrass Creek will be secure.

Priority List offers security
There are three one bedroom floor plans at Tallgrass Creek and two one bedroom designs with dens. These reasonably priced homes are being reserved quickly, and the best way to ensure having a one bedroom in the future is to get on the Priority List now.

“The Priority List provides you with the best opportunity of getting the size and style of floor plan that best meets your lifestyle and budget,” McIntire says. “The better positioning you have on the Priority List, the better chance you will have of reserving your desired floor plan.”

Joining the Priority List requires a $1,000 fully refundable deposit, along with a $150-per-person nonrefundable processing fee, McIntire says. When an apartment is reserved, the $1,000 is applied toward its cost.

Ready to answer questions
McIntire is available to answer any questions.

“If you’re scratching your head and wondering about Tallgrass Creek, come in and see me and we’ll talk about it,” she says. “That’s what I’m here for.”

That’s exactly what Arthur Hawthorne of Lenexa did. He is looking forward to a move to his one bedroom apartment because the space will be more manageable. He now lives in a townhome with two bedrooms and two baths.

“I don’t need all that room just for myself,” he says. “It’s just too much for me to take care of. “

He examined his finances and determined that Tallgrass Creek will provide what he needs and wants.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Hawthorne says.

John Erickson’s vision
Last fall in an interview with the Tribune, John Erickson, who founded Erickson Retirement Communities in 1983, said that the lifestyle at Tallgrass Creek will be affordable for most people who own their houses.

“Previously, a retirement of this caliber was just plain out of reach for, say, a retired schoolteacher,” Erickson said. “I wanted more people to have access to the very best retirement. That’s why, when I built the first community back in ’83, I wanted to create a lifestyle that was truly unique in the amount of amenities and opportunities it provided, but that was also the best financial decision for middle-income homeowners.”

Smith and Hawthorne are just the people that Erickson may have had in mind.
