THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
Walk along the stream that meanders through the Tallgrass Creek community.Look for the colors of blue jays and cardinals in the trees and listen for their song. Take in the sight and fragrance of a garden planted with lilac and forsythia and beds filled with daylilies, black-eyed Susans, purple coneflowers, sedums, and ornamental grasses.
Haven for all seasons
“The overall landscape approach is to create a campus that celebrates the environment of the region,” says Andrew Evans, development director at Tallgrass Creek.
“The predominant use of prairie plantings, regional stone, and flowering trees will give the campus a flavor and character consistent with the local context.” Evans says some of the highlights of the community’s outdoor area will include:
Summer garden courtyard.
Behind the clubhouse in the center of the community, this space will have a putting green, outdoor sun deck, and plenty of room and shade for a leisurely game or a picnic with friends.
Walking trails.
Go for a jog, stretch your legs, or chat with a friend on trails that wind their way throughout the community. Benches will be at many locations and at all of the gardens.
Garden areas. For people with a green thumb who want to get their hands dirty, there will be 48 garden spaces nestled into the northeast corner of Tallgrass Creek. Each garden space will be 10 feet by 10 feet. Tools and equipment will be stored in a small garden shed that also has a water source. Of course, benches will be available so gardeners can share tips and admire their work.
Main entry. When you come into Tallgrass Creek, you’ll be welcomed by a long boulevard lined with trees, decorative lights, shrubs, and seasonal flowers. And there will be a natural oak savannah along the stream corridor.
