Interest in new community peaks

By Mark Abromaitis
THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Tallgrass Creek, a new campus-style community being built in Overland Park, is seeing a spike in interest.

The community’s first building, Bluebird Crossing is 65% reserved, Jane McIntire, retirement counselor at Tallgrass Creek said. “It’s definitely moving fast since groundbreaking. We are pleased with the interest in the community,” McIntire says.

Keeping up with the demand for information requests about the community has taken a team effort. In 2006, Tallgrass Creek received over 7,200 such inquiries. “It has kept us moving,” McIntire said with a smile. “But we’ve been up to the challenge. It’s good to be busy.”

And the interest hasn’t slowed in the beginning part of 2007 either. McIntire says that seeing the community’s construction progress from the road continues to entice. “They can see the progress that we’re making from Metcalf,” she said. “So each day we’re accepting more reservations and adding names to our Priority List.”

The best option
Most impressive, is that the community reached the 65% sold-out milestone without offering any homes to the public. The homes were claimed by members of the community’s exclusive Priority List.

A $1,000 refundable deposit gives the Priority List member precedence based on the date the check was submitted. When the apartment style of their choice becomes available, a Priority List member is given the right of first refusal. If the apartment is reserved, the deposit is put directly toward the cost of the apartment home.

Now or later
“The race goes to the swift,” McIntire says, “Every day that someone waits to join, one or two people jump in line ahead of them. If people are considering Tallgrass Creek for this year, they should take a look at our free Information Kit and join the Priority List as soon as possible.”

McIntire explains, “Some apartment styles have wait times of several years. Joining is really your best option for getting the home you want.

“If you’ll be ready to move in a few years, now would be a good time to get on the list. It means you’ll be at the top of the list by the time you’re ready to move in. And unlike some communities, your spot in line never expires. It gives you the most options and is 100% refundable, so there’s no risk.”

Reasons to get excited
Tallgrass Creek, will tout a well manicured, maintenance- free campus, covered walkways connecting each building to a spacious clubhouse, a variety of amenities, and unmatched value as its main features.

With over 177,832 agequalified people currently living within a 25-mile radius of the Tallgrass Creek site, the demand for apartment homes is only expected to increase.

A new view of retirement
To meet that rising demand and make life better for middle–income Americans, founder John Erickson opened his first community in Baltimore over 25 years ago. Since that time, Erickson has founded 18 communities in 10 states, with more on the way. He has become a pioneer in retirement living through a number of unique initiatives.

“The idea is to reshape America’s negative image of aging,” Erickson says of his vision. To accomplish that goal, Erickson has created on-campus health care and wellness systems for better living. He also recently donated $5 million dollars to help found the Erickson School on Aging at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Erickson also created Retirement Living, new television programming directed specifically to a retirement age audience.

Tallgrass Creek is one of the newest Erickson communities and the first in Kansas. But his vision for a better retirement hasn’t changed.

Growing applause
Currently over 18,000 people call an Erickson community home throughout the United States. The Priority List, those interested in moving to Tallgrass Creek, has continued to grow. The best way to secure one’s home at Tallgrass Creek, hundreds of Kansas Citians have already joined the list for their chance to live at this new community when it opens later this year.
