‘Lock and leave’ feature appealing to couple on the move

THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Todd and Beth Cannon of Overland Park, Kan. chose Tallgrass Creek so they could keep on moving. They want to keep on traveling.

“It was really the lock and leave idea that we were attracted to,” Todd said about the couple’s choice to join the Priority List at Tallgrass Creek.

The avid travelers have a van that’s ready to go at any time. “It’s nice being able to just hit the road when you want to,” he said. And later this year, the Cannons will be doing just that when they travel to France with their six children.

“It’s nice to have the security of a gated community where you know your home and things are secure and will be watched,” Beth said. “And it’s nice to have the front desk to take care of your mail.”

A home base
Before they chose Tallgrass Creek, they traveled around the country and looked at communities in Florida, North Carolina, and Arizona. “We loved all of those areas but we are blessed to have deep roots in Kansas City. We are still very involved with our high school class…and we volunteer at our local church.” Todd added, “We are still very active and don’t see that decreasing.”

Todd said that the couple did their research and investigated a wide variety of retirement options.

“Economically, we figured that we would probably have more disposable income to travel” to those areas if we moved to Tallgrass Creek. “Luckily we have friends with homes throughout the country so if we ever want to travel, we can just call and stay with them,” Todd said with a chuckle.

Seeing is believing
Seeing another Erickson community in action was reassuring. “We visited [Eagle’s Trace in] Houston and if Tallgrass Creek turns out to be half that nice, we’ll be very happy.” Tallgrass Creek’s full array of services, including in home health care and the Medical Center, was a deciding factor for Beth. “We want to be in charge of where we go and what we do,” she said. “We are chosing

Tallgrass Creek for ourselves and our children. We love the in-house medical program and the facilities like the Fitness Center. We hope we don’t need them, but we wanted to be sure we have all of the medical services if we ever do.”

Move it or lose it!
A study published in 2006 in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that active adults lived longer than those who were not active. The study said any activity and exercise can help ward off ailments from heart disease to cancer.

The involved lifestyle was another reason the Cannons were interested in Tallgrass Creek “It’s just a fact that people who stay active in these communities live a longer, more fulfilling life,” Todd said. The Cannons joined the Priority List early to secure their spot at Tallgrass Creek.

The Cannons said that they are looking to move into a two bedroom model with a den. “We have no intention of moving again,” Todd said.

Beth added, “If there’s a group that plans to travel at Tallgrass Creek, we’d love to be involved in it.”
