Many people are interested in opportunities offered through Erickson HealthSM, but sometimes have misconceptions about this program that’s designed to help you keep fit and healthy. Many common myths about Erickson HealthSM can be easily explained.

MYTH #1: If you live at Tallgrass Creek, you will have to leave your doctor.

FACT: You are welcome to keep your own doctor and medical professionals, or you can choose to see an Erickson HealthSM doctor. Although your experience at Tallgrass Creek will be different from your experiences with your current physician, doctors at the Tallgrass Creek Medical Center will give you the specific attention you need at length and offer a wealth of experience in geriatric medicine. If you need to see a specialist, you may choose your own or the Erickson HealthSM doctor may refer you to a specialist they know and trust depending on your health insurance coverage. Skilled specialists in fields like orthopedics, cardiology, and ophthalmology, regularly consult at Erickson Medical Centers.

MYTH #2: Erickson HealthSM professionals only address medical needs.

FACT: Erickson HealthSM professionals will be available to you in every aspect of health care. Doctors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, fitness specialists, dietitians, chefs, your community’s certified wellness manager and resident life specialists will all work together to ensure you’re feeling great and keeping fit. FACT: Security personnel, who also serve as First Responders, will be on site, ready to respond to any urgent situation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. An Erickson HealthSM physi- cian is also on call 24 hours a day. The medical staff at Tallgrass Creek uses Centricity, an electronic medical records system, to computerize your medical records. This helps Erickson HealthSM doctors get the most accurate information about you during an emergency. Every resident is entitled to an electronic medical record, even if you choose to keep your own doctor. (Electronic medical records systems, like Centricity, are only utilized by 18 percent of primary care physicians).

MYTH #4: I won’t have as much time with Erickson HealthSM doctors as I do with mine.

FACT: Each Erickson HealthSM doctor sees no more than 400 patients a year, while some primary care physicians see close to 2,000 in their practice— and sometimes more. Erickson HealthSM doctors only see up to 15 patients per day! This ensures that they can spend an average of 25 minutes with each patient, giving you plenty of time to get to know your doctor and develop a great relationship with him or her.

MYTH #5: I will have to wait a long time to see a doctor.
