LINCOLNSHIRE, IL – As part of a new, ongoing partnership with Glenkirk, a local organization that benefits Lake County residents with developmental disabilities, members of the Sedgebrook woodshop committee recently made and donated 15 birdfeeders. Glenkirk's mission is to provide quality, lifetime supports and services to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to participate fully in all areas of community life, and the birdfeeders will be used to bolster their fundraising efforts.
The Sedgebrook woodshop donated the parts and labor to make the birdfeeders, and gave them to Glenkirk last week. The residents and participants of Glenkirk are now going to decorate the feeders using paint and stencils, and then sell them to raise funds for the organization. The Sedgebrook woodshop will continue to make feeders as needed, as they are sold.
This partnership came about when Glenkirk lost their previous source for birdfeeders. Assistant Executive Director of Sedgebrook Brent Hall sits on the Glenkirk Board of Directors, and thought that this would be an excellent opportunity for the Sedgebrook woodshop to step in and become involved. The woodshop committee, which is currently made up of 19 members (16 men and three women), jumped on the idea.
People who have volunteered to work on the ongoing birdfeeder project include Ralph Berman, Inge Bischoff, Millie Elliot, Ed Grskovich, Don Hollenbech, Bill LeRoy, Leonard March, Gene McCaffrey, Ewald Messling, Loraine Nelson, Paul Pedersen, Smitty Shroyer, Fred Tolzien, and Mike Wager.
