THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Richard Warner had to drive 15 minutes to the local YMCA when he wanted to swim laps—weather permitting.

Now, this New Jersey native can be found in Sedgebrook’s heated, all-season swimming pool rain or  shine.

This state-of-the-art Aquatics Center is just one of the countless amenities Sedgebrook residents enjoy every day, but this month, it’s stealing the spotlight.

Water, Water Everywhere

A former water safety instructor for the Red Cross, Richard says that he learned to swim before he could walk—literally. As a baby, Richard once crawled right off the edge of a pool. He’s been swimming an average of 66 laps daily ever since!

Because of his love for the water, Richard wanted a community with a convenient and well-designed Aquatics Center. He researched an Erickson community in New Jersey before deciding to head west to be closer to family in Northbrook.

Armed with his previous research, Richard knew that Sedgebrook, like every Erickson community, would provide exceptional amenities at a great value.

Now, every morning, Richard grabs his towel and his goggles and heads to the indoor swimming pool.

72 and Sunny Every Day

Weather is no longer a concern for Richard, who says he gets to swim more now that he lives at Sedgebrook.

Rather than drive to the Y, he just strolls down the glass-enclosed climatecontrolled walkways to the Cardinal Clubhouse. “If the weather’s not good, the walkways keep you dry,” he explains.

Even a snowstorm won’t stop a devoted swimmer like Richard. Sedgebrook’s swimming pool is located in the beautiful, glass-enclosed Aquatics Center.

This thoughtful design ensures plenty of natural light and offers a lovely view of the landscaped courtyard. Despite the season, the temperature inside the Aquatics Center is kept at a comfortable 72 degrees, so the water is always just right.

If you’re not quite ready to swim 66 laps with Richard every day, you might try out the enormously popular “Ocean Motion.” This water aerobics class is a big hit with both beginners and more advanced students.

Sedgebrook Wellness Coordinator Kelly Morris instructs the class. “Exercise classes are a great way to stay in shape and socialize at the same time, sometimes, you don’t even realize that what you are doing is exercise.”

According to American Fitness magazine, water exercise is extremely beneficial for mature adults. While activities like walking or cycling can cause joint pain and even damage, exercising in water provides a more comfortable range of  motion and promotes joint health and flexibility.

Mary Lou Wager of Cary has always enjoyed water aerobics, but, prior to living at Sedgebrook, she had to go to a health club to participate.

“I said to myself, if Sedgebrook has my water aerobics, what am I doing paying for it at a big health club?”

Mary Lou and husband Mike aren’t the only ones getting good use out ofSedgebrook’s swimming pool.

“Our grandchildren love the pool,” says Mary Lou. “I have to say, it’s a good drawing point to get the grandkids to come visit.”

Relax and Rejuvenate

After a few laps, an invigorating water aerobics class, or just a busy day out and about, you deserve a little relaxation.

The Aquatics Center features a generous hot tub to help you relax, refresh, and rejuvenate.

Even if you’re not a water-lover, you’re sure to love the Aquatics Center. Gather your card group together at one of the comfy poolside tables for a friendly game with a fun change of scene.

Or, grab your beach towel and your latest book club selection and soak up the sun in one of the poolside chairs. You’ll feel just like you’re on vacation.

The Value May Surprise You

While Sedgebrook’s amenities may make you feel like you’re on vacation, your pocketbook won’t.

Despite first-class amenities like the Aquatics Center, Sedgebrook is easily affordable to most Chicagoland homeowners, and not just those who live in Lincolnshire. In fact, the value of living at Sedgebrook is comparable to current home values in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, and other neighborhoods.
