The anchors of The Seabrook Sports Show

In honor of March Madness and baseball’s spring training, the Tribune recently asked the anchors, “Who do you cheer for and where do you enjoy the game?”

Dick McGuire
“I am probably interested in college basketball more than anything. We’re coming up to March Madness now, and I’ll probably end up cheering for Duke or North Carolina. From what I gather, UCLA is really great this year. They showed the big Rutgers football game here in the Atrium at Seabrook. We have a lot of Rutgers fans here from New Jersey. I’m a graduate of Rutgers Law School, but I haven’t been much of a fan; they’ve been so poor over the years. But this year they finally got some national attention so it’s worth watching.”

Ed Lassen
“I root for the Yankees, the Mets, and the Boston Red Sox. I lived [in Boston], and I actually had season tickets for a number of years. It was cool; we loved it up there. I still love the Red Sox, and in the sports show I always show preference to them. As a local now, I love the Mets and the Yankees, too. I watch the games on my TV in my home.”

Ed Walley
“I’m a Yankees fan. I was born in the Bronx. I lived within walking distance of Yankee Stadium. I consider myself an allaround sports fan, but if I had to pick one I’d pick the Yankees. I used to go to games very often. Now I mostly watch them on TV because it’s too much of a hassle to drive into the city and get to the ball park.”

John Codomo
“I root for the Mets in baseball and the New Jersey Nets in basketball. I was an old-time Brooklyn Dodger fan, and in 1958 they moved to Los Angeles so I was without my Dodgers. In 1962 the Mets were formed and they play in the same area in New York so I became a Mets fan. I root for the New Jersey Nets because they are a new franchise here in New Jersey, which is where I’ve always lived. I watch the game in my home as a rule, but once in a while, when we have a special setup here at Seabrook, I’ll go down and watch the game with the gang.”
