“What do you want to try this year that you’ve always wanted to do—or do again—but never had the time?”

“I want to update my autobiography. I finished writing it over a year ago, when my first granddaughter was born, and I included her in the book. Now my second granddaughter is going to be born the end of this month and I want to include her too. They’re the reason I wrote the book, mainly. My son and my grandchildren are born Americans, but I’m an immigrant, born in the Ukraine. I was in various refugee camps around Europe and I was under both the Communists and the Nazis. My son knows my life story, but I wanted to put those experiences down for my whole family.”

“I go to the fitness center every couple of days, and I’m satisfied with that. For me, the key word is ‘retirement.’ You get rid of your house so you don’t have to deal with contractors and painters and gardeners and plumbers. You go into your apartment, close the door and that’s it. It’s good that some people are active in various groups, and I think it’s a worthwhile thing. Personally I’m not interested, but maybe I’ll change my mind next week or next month or tomorrow. I have that choice here.”

“I’ve done a lot of traveling in my lifetime, and I’d like get back into it. I have some arthritis in my knees that has kept me from travel lately, but next week I’m taking a 3-day trip down to Lancaster, Pennsylvania—Amish Country. I’m going with a group of about 40 people from Seabrook, and I’m hoping it will work out for me, so I can make plans for future travel next year. With a group that’s set up to accommodate older people’s needs, I think I’ll be able to.”
