THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Perhaps that summer outfit you bought last year is feeling just a tad too snug this year. Or maybe you simply think it’s time to tone up.

It could be you’ve noticed you can’t bend or stretch as far in certain directions. Or perhaps your doctor has told you to get more exercise.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to join a health club, you couldn’t find a better one to belong to than Seabrook’s Fitness Center.

Personalized Plan

Of course, you do have to live at Seabrook in order to avail yourself of this state-of-the art, professionally staffed facility. But once that little detail is out of the way, you’ll find that few health clubs can offer what the Seabrook Fitness Center offers. Such as:

• A low monthly membership fee. At health clubs outside of Seabrook, it’s not unusual to pay $40, $50, $60, or more a month. At Seabrook, the fee is nominal—just $17.50 a month.

• A very low member-tofacility ratio. Other health clubs have thousands of members competing for use of equipment and the attention of staff. At Seabrook’s Fitness Center, there are only a couple hundred members.

• A highly specialized, certified staff, whose only clients are people at retirement age. They know the kind of fitness needs this age group has, the issues they may face, and the precautions that need to be taken to ensure a safe and beneficial health club experience.

As well-versed as they are in the needs of older people, the Seabrook Fitness Center staff also recognizes that everyone is different. That’s why they meet with each and every new member and design a personalized exercise plan for that individual.

Becoming a Member

The first step for anyone wishing to join the Seabrook Fitness Center is to get a clearance from the prospective member’s physician.

Oftentimes, people come to the Fitness Center because their doctor has recommended it as a way to lower their blood pressure or high cholesterol level. Sometimes, a person has finished treatment in Seabrook’s rehab department and is being sent to the Fitness Center for follow- up. Whatever the case may be, a doctor’s written clearance is needed.

Once that has been received, the Fitness Center staff sets up an appointment with each new member. The purpose is to get to know them, find out their likes, dislikes, and abilities, and develop a plan based on this appointment and any information provided by their doctor or other health professionals.

Award Clubs

To help you follow your personal plan, the Fitness Center Staff gives you Exercise Cards. After each exercise routine, it’s marked off on the card.

Complete six cards— about 100 exercises—and the staff makes you a member of the “Hundred Club” and gives you a T-shirt. Fill up 31 cards, and you’ll be in the “Five Hundred Club” with a free one-year membership as your reward. Stay with your program long enough and you could even become a “Thousand Club” member, receiving an embroidered fleece.

But the biggest reward is improved fitness, better function, and overall better health.
