Providing support, smiles, and honor to America’s military heroes
Eager to support American troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, Riderwood community members and staff recently joined the efforts of Operation Welcome Home. Since March 2007, this dedicated group of volunteers has greeted 55 flights and more than 12,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines coming through the gates of the Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).

Last month, in the midst of numerous debates, political commercials, and polls, Riderwood community members devised a unique way to celebrate the 2008 General Election. Just seven days before election day, The Washington Nationals mascots, George Washington and Teddy Roosevelt, joined presidential and vice presidential look-alikes in a race to the polls.

Talented knitters join together to provide warmth and comfort for local hospice patients
Proving that the selfless acts of a few can help many, Riderwood Hospice Knitters have volunteered more than 1,250 hours creating shawls for hospice patients and their caregivers at the Casey House, an inpatient facility of Montgomery Hospice.

Riderwood and High Point High School join hands in educational and philanthropic endeavor
In a partnership with High Point High School, in Burtonsville, Md., gardeners at Riderwood travel to the school twice a week to share their agricultural knowledge with the students in exchange for year-round use of the school’s greenhouse.
