Accepting the Hemingway challenge

THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Recently, members of the Riderwood community participated in a campus-wide challenge once presented to Ernest Hemingway. Legend has it that the renowned
author was asked to write a full story in six words. Hemingway accepted the challenge, penning the heartfelt and moving story: “For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

These six small words served as a lesson to verbose writers everywhere—
sometimes less is best. Faced with the challenge of creating similar stories, more than three dozen members of the Riderwood community crafted their own six-word
memoirs.

“Two sailed away— five dropped anchor”
(The abbreviated memoir refers to my life with a career sailor (USN type) and the three children that we established a “ home port” for.)
    —Barbara Stroud

“I’ve lived, laughed, and loved! Lucky me!”
    —Marge Kaplow

"Loose  wire, hot wire, still wired"

    — Al Valentino

"A privilege to have loved you"
    — Anonymous

"Best-laid plans go oft awry"
    — Sarajean Sherk

"Lived on five continents. Happiness everywhere!"
    —Pat Whitty
