THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Rather than fighting traffic, paying a hefty penny for a delicious meal, or spending the day in the kitchen, members of the Riderwood community continue to hang up their pots and pans, making a beeline to the campus’ five on-site restaurants.

Tempted by healthy and delicious food, engaging conversation, and unbeatable service, diners find that these restaurants offer some of the best dining in Maryland.

Delicious food
Seven days a week, the dining staff provides a wide variety of healthy options for its 2,800-person community. The restaurants include more than 500 delectable menu options that rotate every day—from melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin to freshly grilled catch of the day.

“Eating well is the key to a healthy lifestyle,” says Victor Cirrincione, Riderwood’s executive chef.

“Every day each of our five restaurants offers healthy and nutritious entrées.”

And for those who live there, not only are delicious and well-balanced  menu options available, but one meal a day is included in their monthly service package.

“One of my favorite things about Riderwood is not having to cook,” says Emma Ditman. “I don’t have to plan meals or do the dishes. Now that I have more free time, I’ve started a new hobby. I didn’t have time for that before.”

Social dining
In addition to the health benefits of proper nutrition, topnotch restaurants provide community members with a popular social outlet.

“Every night at dinner we meet people eager to talk,” says Funny Jaffe. “This was much harder to do when we lived in our condo. The caliber of people at Riderwood is truly unique. People here are so bright and have so many wonderful experiences to share.”

Community member James Guthrie agrees. “There are a lot of possibilities for interacting with your neighbors, whom you see on an almost daily basis. Eating meals together is a great way to really get to know your neighbor,” he says.

Riderwood’s back stage pass

Q: I keep hearing that Riderwood has a day spa, but I’m not exactly sure what that means. Is the “day spa” a gym or a place to receive beauty treatments?

A: In addition to two state-of-the-art fitness centers, members of the Riderwood community have access to a full-service day spa operating minutes from their front door. It provides a full menu of services designed for your overall well-being. Skin care, facials, and body massages are available by appointment. Other popular services include waxing, nail care (manicures, pedicures, acrylics), hair care (coloring, styling, permanents), and makeup. All  services are available to members of the community and staff, and are performed by certified professionals.

For people who’ve dismissed spa services as a luxury they couldn’t afford, the day spa is surprisingly affordable, and monthly specials are also available. “I used to go to Bethesda to have my hair and nails done,” says Barbara Kirkland. “I paid a lot more and received the same quality of service that I enjoy here at Riderwood’s day spa. This place is terrific. Even my husband comes to the spa to get his hair cut.

“To all my friends who’ve asked where I go to get my hair done, or are looking for recommendations, I always tell them to try Riderwood’s day spa,” says Kirkland. “It is definitely a benefit of living here.”

The day spa is located at the Lakeside Commons Clubhouse and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Tuesday through Saturday, providing services for both men and women.

People who live at Riderwood can book an appointment or order a gift certificate by calling 301-572-1300.
