Style, versatility, and comfort—it’s what every woman wants in her wardrobe. And if it is affordable and doesn’t need to be drycleaned, then it’s even better!

That’s exactly what Weekenders, a Toronto-based clothing company, offers women of all ages. The ladies of Monarch Landing had the chance to see and purchase fashions from Weekenders’ spring collection at the community’s first-ever fashion show and luncheon.

About 20 people who live and work at Monarch Landing became models for the day. The lovely ladies dazzled the crowd, strutting down the catwalk in brightly patterned tunics, sleek black evening dresses, and flattering jacket and pant ensembles.

Simple style for active women
More clothing and shoe lines are combining fashion and comfort to fit the lifestyles of today’s active women. Weekenders’ cotton pieces are all designed to mix and match, allowing women to build a full wardrobe with just ten items. Each piece does double duty, making it easy to go from day to night and be ready for any occasion at a moment’s notice.

For example, the tunic, which sells for $37.95, is long enough to also be worn as a pencil skirt and paired with a matching jacket and camisole. A casual black dress goes glam when paired with an elegant mesh shrug. The collection even features a tote bag that transforms into a jacket when you unzip it—perfect for traveling.

Shop at home
The Weekenders collection is sold through independent consultants, much like the way Mary Kay Cosmetics are sold. Women can organize “shopping parties” for friends right in the comfort of their own homes.

“It’s a great girls’ night out,” says Weekenders representative Mary Jo Ryan. “It saves women the time and frustration of going to the mall.”

Almost 200 people attended Monarch Landing’s spring fashion show. The proceeds were donated to the community’s hand bell choir to help fund the purchase of new bells. The ladies (and gentlemen!) enjoyed a lunch of fresh fruit and chicken salad while they watched a truly unique fashion show.

“It was very nice,” says resident Ruth Curran. “I think the models did a great job, especially for not being professionals.”
