Although she is from Naperville, Dee Schumacher knows how to line dance like a tried-and-true Southerner. Schumacher says she learned to line dance during the many winters she and her husband Ray spent in the South.
Now that the couple lives at Monarch Landing, Schumacher brings a little southern culture back to Naperville every Monday morning. She teaches a line dancing class that’s becoming increasingly popular among her neighbors.
Schumacher plays upbeat country songs and breaks down the moves of several popular line dances for participants. She says the dances are not only great exercise but also help improve balance—a top concern for many older adults.
Line dancing is one of many alternative fitness classes that Monarch Landing residents can enjoy, proving that you don’t have to spend hours on the treadmill to stay fit.
“Plus, line dancing exposes people to so much different music,” Schumacher says.
