Newsbrief: Treasure Chest does $420 in business on opening day

Posted on Tuesday, April 24, 2007

NAPERVILLE, IL – The Treasure Chest at Monarch Landing opened for business earlier this month, and brought in more than $400 in sales on the first day alone. “We had an official ribbon cutting ceremony on April 12, and I honored and praised our wonderful 18-member committee,” said Sherry DeFillippo, community resources manager at Monarch Landing. “This is by far the largest start-up committee we have had here on campus, and they are just fabulous!” The Treasure Chest is currently open two days a week, although DeFillippo said that plans are underway to expand the operation to fit the needs of the community. Residents, staff, and family members can shop there, and items for sale include everything from glassware, artwork, and other decorative items to furniture and rugs. All merchandise is donated by residents, and the money that’s brought in benefits the Benevolent Care Fund, Scholar’s Fund, and other clubs and committees at Monarch Landing. “The bottom line is that the money stays in the community for community use, as well as for charitable efforts,” said DeFillippo.
