Ten years ago Maxine Butcher began taking art classes at the Older Adult Institute at the College of DuPage. Now retired and living at Monarch Landing with her husband Tom, Butcher is an avid painter.

“The painting really took off when I retired,” Butcher says. “I’m all over the place. If I get bored with one thing, I’ll try something else.”

She dabbles in everything from acrylics to watercolors to oils, and particularly enjoys painting portraits.

Paintings on display
Although she says earning money from her work is not her primary goal, Butcher has exhibited and sold her paintings over the years.

Two of Butcher’s paintings are on display at the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago as part of an exhibition entitled “Baby, Baby, Baby.” The show runs through the end of May and a percentage of sales benefit the Infant Welfare Society.
