NAPERVILLE, IL – Monarch Landing has donated 50 doses of flu vaccine to the DuPage Community Clinic, a non-profit organization with offices in Wheaton and Villa Park that provides free primary, diagnostic, and therapeutic medical and dental intervention to low-income DuPage County residents who are medically uninsured.
“We recently finished our flu shot clinics at Monarch Landing and decided to donate our remaining vaccine to an area organization that needed them,” explained Tom Morris, D.O., physician at Monarch Landing. “Apparently [the clinic] had zero flu vaccines until we donated ours, and they’re a great organization doing great work, so we were happy to help.”
“The DuPage Community Clinic appreciates the donation of flu vaccine from Monarch Landing, and along with a donation from Good Samaritan Hospital, we are now having patients come in at designated times for flu shots,” said Carol McHaley, executive director of the DuPage Community Clinic. “We are a free clinic, staffed by physicians and nurses who volunteer their time, and many of our patients could not afford to go to the various pharmacies that were offering the shots, so they are very thankful we are now able to offer this service.”
Last year, Monarch Landing and its sister community, Sedgebrook, donated 2,780 flu vaccines to KidCare Medical/Northwest Pediatric Services, an organization based in Hanover Park, Ill., whose clients are primarily low-income families with children under the age of two.
Flu season in the United States begins in December and ends in March, so there is still a need to administer the vaccine to those who have not yet received it, particularly children, older adults, and people with compromised immune systems.
