Markie Simmons, Monarch Landing’s experienced retirement counselor, is here to answer all your questions about Monarch Landing’s reputation of providing the perfect blend of opportunities, amenities, health care, and value. Recently, we sat down with her to discuss Monarch Landing’s exciting lifestyle.

Q.  Can you talk about the 100% Refundable Entrance Deposit, how it works, and why it is such a great benefit?

A.  I’m glad you asked because it’s something that our founder, John Erickson, pioneered more than 23 years ago, and it’s a huge reason why Erickson communities are so popular.

Many people use the equity built up in their house and put a portion of it into an apartment home as a deposit. At a lot of places you can never get that money back in full. But at Monarch Landing, your deposit is refundable to you or your estate 100 percent. You won’t lose your nest egg. Your money is kept where it belongs – in your pocket. And with home values still strong now, it’s a good time to consider making a move to this kind of lifestyle.

Q.  People always talk about the unbeatable monthly service package. Why is it such a great value?

A.  Maintaining a home is expensive. You’ve got repairs, utility bills, property taxes, year-round maintenance around the house – such as shoveling snow, raking leaves, and spring cleaning – and some still pay mortgages.

The monthly service package allows you to put all those expenses and worries to rest. At Monarch Landing, you’ll have one low monthly service package that covers all utilities (except the telephone), maintenance, and property taxes. Plus, you get access to so many amenities: all-season swimming pool, billiards and game rooms, woodwork and hobby shop, card room and lounges, computer lab and classrooms, creative arts studio, library, on-site Medical Center with a full-time physician, and two on-site restaurants. That’s an amazing value.

Q.  How do “Life Care” communities compare to Monarch Landing?

A.  Everyone has different health care needs. Some people are in good health and are years away from needing any type of assisted living or skilled nursing care. Others may never require long-term care. Communities with Life Care believe everyone should pay the same for health care, even if you’re in perfect health. So if you’re in excellent health, you will still pay the same as someone who may need skilled nursing.

At Monarch Landing, we don’t agree with that way of thinking. We believe you shouldn’t pay for other people’s health care, just your own.
