Riverwalk Architects Work their Magic on Naperville Community

You may have already heard about the indoor amenities you can expect at Monarch Landing, like the Fitness Center, swimming pool, and the climate-controlled walkways. But what can you expect when you step outdoors?

A Renowned Design Team

Craig Kruckenberg of Hitchcock Design Group is working to ensure that Monarch Landing is as beautiful outside as it is in. Hitchcock transformed downtown Naperville into one of Chicagoland’s hottest destinations when it began designing the Riverwalk in 1981.

Now, Craig and his team are designing the landscape at Monarch Landing. “We are excited about designing the grounds at Monarch Landing,” he says.

“We think the space that we are creating will draw people outdoors so they can really enjoy all that Monarch Landing has to offer.”

So what will the landscape offer?

According to Craig, beauty, recreation, and convenience.

Beautiful Surroundings

As you pass through the guarded gatehouse and down the tree-lined main entrance, the first thing you’ll see is the Millstone fountain, designed to spray water 15 feet into the air.

The Millstone fountain is just your first glimpse of the beautiful scenery to come.

Continue on and you’ll come across plenty of green space in the courtyards between buildings and behind the 52,000 squarefoot Promenade Clubhouse.

Benches will line the winding walkways, inviting you to stop a moment and smell the flowers.

And there will be plenty of flowers to enjoy. Rose bushes, blossoming lilacs, forsythia, viburnum, and indigenous prairie grasses will breathe fragrance and color into the landscape.

Biking, Gardening, and More

Despite the beautiful landscaping, you won’t be told to keep off the grass here. So go ahead and step off the path. Monarch Landing is your backyard and, therefore, yours to enjoy as you see fit.

That’s why the landscape is being designed with fun and recreation in mind. Challenge the grandkids to a game of badminton on the lush green lawns, or gather your gardening tools. The community will have resident gardens, so you can contribute your own plants, flowers, and vegetables to the natural scenery.

Most exciting is Monarch Landing’s proximity to the Illinois Prairie Path. In fact, the path borders the community to the west, and an easy access is planned right from campus.

That’s great news for Doris and Keith of Wheaton. “We’re both bike riders,” Doris explains. She and Keith have belonged to a biking group since 1996. “We’re especially looking forward to the Prairie Path being right here,” she says.

The scenic Prairie Path isn’t just for biking. It’s an ideal location for walking, bird-watching, or just enjoying the fresh air.

Why should humans have all the fun? Your pet will also enjoy plenty of fresh air and exercise at the community’s dog park. That’s right! Monarch Landing will have an enclosed dog park where your pooch can play with his friends and relieve you  from the chore of long, daily walks.

No question Monarch Landing will be beautiful or that there will be plenty of opportunity for fun and recreation, but Craig and his team also want the landscape to include every possible convenience.

“Our main concern is to create a community that is both functional and beautiful,” he says.

Never Shovel Your Driveway Again

One of the most convenient features of Monarch Landing is the indoor parking deck, which is built into the interior of the buildings. That way, the community has more green space and fewer views of asphalt parking lots.

Most importantly, this indoor parking strategy is convenient. The parking deck is fully accessible from your apartment home. No  more walking up and downstairs or shoveling your driveway.

Even better, the first 125 people to move in 2006 will receive their own reserved parking spot free for life. That’s a savings of nearly $30 a month.

While there’s plenty of space in the indoor parking deck for one car per apartment home, having your own reserved spot is an additional perk. Choose the spot closest to your apartment home and make it even easier to get up and go.

Now, when you schedule your visit to Monarch Landing, you can see the unique indoor parking deck for yourself. When you take the guided construction site tour, you’ll see how the buildings wrap around the parking deck for easy access to each apartment home.

Building Your Backyard

Hitchcock is working to ensure that Monarch Landing’s backyard is beautiful, fun, and convenient.

By incorporating elements of the natural landscape, like the wetlands and the adjacent forest preserves, the design team is creating an environment that is warm, welcoming, and natural-looking.

With the successful designers of Naperville’s famed Riverwalk hard at work on the landscape, Monarch Landing is certain to be as beautiful outside as it is in.
