Maris Grove officials announced this month that the community’s newest
residence building, located next to the new Cardinal Clubhouse, will pilot a new
design.

The homes in Bluebird Crossing will still have the exact same look and feel
of the others at Maris Grove, but the building will also offer a limited
number of underground parking for the people who live there when it opens in
the spring of 2009.

Giving it a try
The underground garage at Bluebird Crossing is the first ever built at any of the
20 Erickson communities throughout the country. “This is something completely new to Erickson,” Maris Grove Executive Director Maureen Heckler says.

Heckler says the Maris Grove residents were key in developing the idea. “We
are continually trying to make our campuses better, and this was a recommendation that the Maris Grove residents and the members of our Resident Advisory Committee asked for. They suggested that underground parking was a convenience that they really wanted. So with that in mind, we were able to sit down with our engineers and architects and tried to make it happen.”

The parking parameters
The garage will have approximately 70 spaces, though logistics are
still being “ironed out,” says Heckler. “Due to its location on campus it will probably be most convenient to those who live nearby. But we are excited and think it’s a convenience that some people will want to take advantage of.”

Heckler adds that depending on its popularity, Erickson may consider underground garages for all new communities in the future. “But we’ll see. It’s really an awesome first step.”

Heckler says the garage isn’t huge, so there will only be a limited number of spaces available. “It’s an extra amenity for our residents and it’s something that not everyone will use, so there will be a fee involved for the residents who do use it,” she adds. “But we’ll figure all of that out as it gets closer to opening.”
