Most people dread the idea of moving simply because of the logistics of planning or the stress a move can put on a homeowner. But many who have moved to Maris Grove in the last couple of months say their experiences went smoothly.

A change of pace
Angela Stango wasn’t sure that Maris Grove was right for her. But she did know that she wanted a change of pace.

“I was looking for something different,” she says. “I went to a number of communities to visit and finally found a place I liked,” she says, referring to Maris Grove. It was Maris Grove’s financial plan that got her attention, but she explains, “What really sold me were the people. When I visited, I loved the people—everyone, including the residents were just so pleasant and went out of their way to say ‘hello’ and learn my name.”

Stango adds, “That was the type of place I wanted to be. And moving here has been great. You literally have dozens of friends outside your door.” For Maris Grove resident  Isaac “Ike” Watkin and his wife, Betty, moving to Maris Grove was a case of moving home again.

‘Moving home’ again
The couple lived in a house on a four acre piece of property adjacent to Maris Grove for years before moving to a 50+ community in nearby Hershey’s Mill, Pa.

“The Concordville Township was our home for years so we were extremely familiar with the area around Maris Grove. And my whole family was one of the first in the area—you know how that is, there are even streets named after some family members,” he says with a laugh. “But moving to Maris Grove made sense. It was really like moving home to us.”

Their own time frame
But the Watkins weren’t in a hurry. “We wanted to be sure we were ready and could get the home we wanted.” So the couple requested an information kit and after doing their research, joined the community’s Priority List that saved their space in line. “We reviewed floor plans and two years later, we thought we were ready.”

Watkin says he and his wife are driving less, and having everything they could need on campus was the biggest draw for them. “The community has so much to do. You can’t be bored on campus. You can do as much or as little as you want. From the clubs to dinners and events, this place keeps you seriously entertained.”

A bear of a market
The couple had to wait almost three months until they found a buyer for their home at the 50+ community. “We had to be creative and entertain all offers,” he says. “But the key was really making sure that we priced our home right at the level where other homes have sold.” Of the real estate market, Ike Watkin says, “It wasn’t a dream situation, but it also wasn’t as bad as everyone says.”

The couple used a moving company they were familiar with and had used for previous moves. The rest is history.

“Everything went extremely smooth,” he says. “And the staff at Maris Grove was excellent; they all made the process  easy. There was hardly a wrinkle.”
