THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Maris Grove Custom Interiors Director Gayle Chissus, has spent her career making things beautiful. While raising a family in Kansas City, Gayle had her own interior decorating business for 25 years. In doing so she built a faithful following of satisfied customers. She made sure that each home she decorated mirrored the personal taste and personality of that client.

Then she moved to the Delaware area where she worked for seven years as a wedding floral designer.

“I loved being an interior decorator,” Gayle says, “getting to know each client and what they wanted, then creating a place that reflected their tastes. It was very rewarding.”

Gayle also enjoyed being a floral designer. “There was some pressure because you’re always involved in helping to plan a wedding, but it was very exciting, too.”

Now as Maris Grove’s custom interiors decorator, Gayle says, “I’m back doing what I enjoy doing —working with people to help make their homes look great.”

How Gayle Can Help Your Home Sparkle
When a Priority List member reserves a home at Maris Grove, after they choose from among 20 different floor plans they meet with the move-in coordinator, Mary Wright. Before they move, she helps them pick out carpet, flooring, countertops, cabinetry, wallpaper, and paint from a variety of incredible options.

Then after reserve members move in to their homes, they can meet with Gayle to customize their homes practically anyway they want.

“Usually, the first thing I help people with is window treatments. What kind of curtains do they want, and if they prefer crown moulding like cornice boards or other possibilities.”

Gayle says that custom woodworking, or as she likes to call “built-ins”, is another popular choice.

“I can help design an extra bookcase, shelves, or help them make better use of their closet space with extra shelves, jewelry boards, tie racks, you name it.”

Now to the Kitchen!
Gayle’s wizardry continues in the kitchen, another area that new residents like to jazz up. “Sometimes residents want to upgrade an appliance or two, like a cappuccino maker. Or they want to put ceramic flooring down in the kitchen, or wood flooring, like parquet, in another room if they’ve got an area rug they want to put down. This is their new home so I encourage people to do what they want.”

Gayle says that her department is flexible, too. If a new resident prefers to have the window treatments completed by the time they move in, she is happy to measure the windows and have the curtains ready by their move-in date.

“We’re a customized interior design outfit that offers one-stop shopping,” she says. “We’re here to serve the residents—purely for their convenience. We’ll do whatever we can to help give their homes that spectacular, one-of-a-kind look.”

It’s obvious with Gayle’s talent, experience, and enthusiasm that she could have worked anywhere she wanted. So why did she pick Maris Grove and Erickson?

“When I heard about the opportunity to work for Erickson, I went online to view their website and was completely blown away by John Erickson’s vision,” she says.

“I like that Erickson is nonprofit and it’s such a quality organization with wonderful people who work hard to give residents a really satisfying lifestyle. I jumped at the opportunity to work for such a company. I think John Erickson’s vision trickles down to everyone who works here and to the people who live here. He’s set the standard high and it gets everyone up for doing the best job possible.”

And, as Gayle can certainly attest, that’s a beautiful thing.
