Throughout 47 years of marriage, the magic ingredients that keep Dr. Sol Mayer and his wife Rose Anne together are laughter and togetherness.
“We do everything together,” says Sol with a chuckle. “I was a dentist for 35 years and she ran my office. We were together every hour of the day. She’s my companion and best friend. Even when I’m doing something that she doesn’t care about, like playing pool, she’ll sit there and watch me. And vice versa. We love being around each other. We share everything.”
In fact, this lifelong affection is the reason the Mayers were one of the first to reserve a home at Maris Grove. Currently living at Fox Hill Farm in Delaware County, the Mayers decided Erickson’s newest community was the best alternative for their outgoing lifestyle.
“Maris Grove came along at the right place at the right time,” says Sol. “We’re happy living at Fox Hill, but the lifestyle, amenities, services and security that Maris Grove offers are hard to beat.”
Sol and Rose Anne are the type of people who embrace every day because they never forget that life is full of opportunity.
“I’ve had a tremendous life. No one owes me a thing. So the most important thing to me is being happy,” Sol says. “Erickson has a confluence of opportunities for us. I’m a social animal. We love being around people—talking to people, doing activities together. We looked at other places, but Erickson has a tremendous reputation, and you can’t beat the benefits.”
Go Fly a Kite
With Sol’s gregarious outlook on life, it’s not surprising that he enjoys simple pleasures, especially one activity that suits his personality—genuine without a hint of pretentiousness.
“I really like to fly kites,” he says. “I used to make them, but now I just fly them. I think kite flying is a lot like fishing. The only difference is their line goes down, mine goes up. Plus, like fishing, kite flying gives you a chance to relax and take a moment to enjoy some solitude.”
