THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE
The swimming team at Hingham High School did not come up high and dry this winter, thanks to the aquatics center at Linden Ponds.
Hingham’s swimmers were invited to use Linden Ponds’s pool as a practice facility for three one-hour sessions weekly from December into February. The coed team included 47 athletes, all of whom were supervised during practices by head coach Kara McDonough and assistant coach Kaitlyn McDonough.
Successful season
Thanks in large part to its Linden Ponds workouts, Hingham enjoyed a very successful 2006-07 competitive season. The Harbormen (Hingham’s school nickname) exceeded expectations by placing third in the annual Patriot Conference meet, and several of its swimmers posted event times that qualified them to compete in later Massachusetts sectional and state competitions.
Capping its surprising season, Hingham finished in a tie for 20th place in the girls’ Division II state championship meet held Feb. 17 at Wellesley College.
“We can’t thank Linden Ponds enough for allowing us the use of their phenomenal aquatics center,” Kara McDonough says.
Ongoing partnership
According to Director of Resident Life Meredith Scott, Linden Ponds has maintained a mutually beneficial relationship with the high school and local community.
“We were thrilled to be able to help the Hingham High swim team,” Scott says. “We truly have a wonderful relationship with Hingham High School. Between the many students from Hingham High School who work at Linden Ponds, and now this new partnership with the swim team, we’re glad we were able to help.”
