“Mom has already joined the walking club and attended a play. I know it won’t be hard for her to find fun things to do at Linden Ponds,” says Marilee Driscoll, Author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Long-Term Care Planning.

“I felt very comfortable with my mom’s decision to move to Linden Ponds. I was familiar with Erickson Communities,” says Marilee. “From a professional standpoint, they have an extremely good reputation.”

Family experience
Marilee’s reason to get into the field of long-term care planning was a personal one. “I was a financial planner and active in the insurance industry in the late 80s when modern long-term care insurance was gaining prominence. I also had some family experience with extended long-term care with my grandmother,” says Marilee.

Professionally, Marilee wanted to learn more about long-term care insurance based on her personal experience with her grandmother. She quickly started lecturing on this topic extensively within the financial services and banking communities in Boston. It took off so quickly that she became a fulltime speaker and writer on the topic of long-term care and how to finance it from a personal finance point of view.

“The next thing you know I had a book out. The book is dedicated to my grandmother. Without her and her experience, I never would have had the career I now have regarding longterm care planning.” adds Marilee.

Full spectrum of services
When it was time for Marilee’s mom to consider an active retirement community, together they looked for a place that had a full spectrum of services. “Mom is very healthy now, but I urged her to think of the future. Traditional age 55-plus communities may look attractive today, but they are a short-sighted solution. I was aware of the CC RC option (continuing care retirement community), and was glad to find Linden Ponds only 30 minutes from my house. It’s a great solution that gives both me and mom peace of mind,” says Marilee.

Linden Ponds culture
“It’s hard to keep physically fit through New England winters. From the pool, the fitness classes, it was clear to me and my mom that the culture at Linden Ponds is to keep not only the minds of the people who live there strong but also the bodies,” says Marilee. “They make it easy to remain active. That can only be a good thing.”
