No more excuses

The weather’s bad. I’ve been too busy. I don’t feel like cooking. I have an appointment. It’s too far to the gym. It’s too hot. It’s too cold. It’s too rainy.

Excuses. Excuses. Regardless of our good intentions, most of us can find an excuse not to stick to our well-intentioned plans to exercise regularly and eat healthy.

Indeed, given Dallas’ capricious weather patterns and oftentimes oppressive summers, sometimes the excuses for staying indoors and skipping that walk around the block or trip to the grocery are valid.

The good news is that Highland Springs, located just south of the President George Bush Turnpike, offers a climate-controlled environment that eliminates most every excuse.

Too hot? Or humid? Or cold? No more
With the weatherproof walkways at Highland Springs, weather is off the list of excuses. The network of walkways connect building to building, so homeowners can walk to the bank or the medical center or art class or the woodworking shop without even so much as a glance at the umbrella.

When the weather outside is frightful, many walkers simply chart a course through the halls and get in their 20-minutes in comfort. And with the two dining options for delicious, nutritious meals, you don’t have to visit the grocery store to eat right.

Too far to the gym? Not any more
Don’t want to get in the traffic on the way to the gym? No excuse. The Highland Springs Fitness Center is on-site. Located on the first floor with  windows that overlook the landscaped grounds, the Center is open every day of the week, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A trainer is always on hand to guide exercisers and help plan a well-rounded program.

The Center features a full complement of Keiser air-resistant equipment that utilizes a revolutionary air resistance technology instead of flying weight stacks.

Raining? The pool is open
Even on the coldest, rainiest day, athletes who enjoy water exercise have no excuse. The Aquatics Center at Highland Springs is designed for year-round enjoyment.

The heated indoor pool is an ideal venue for swimming laps. And when it’s time for fun, the grandchildren love being invited over for a splash.

Additionally, the whirlpool spa provides a soothing soak after workouts or a way to relax after a day filled with business and appointments.

The outdoorsy type? Take a hike
As well as providing an ideal indoor environment, the grounds of Highland Springs are destined to feature a host of landscaping delights including a sparkling lake, courtyards with benches and fountains, quadrangles with lush trees and plants, and a network of paths that meander throughout the community.

Erickson’s staff of land planners has carefully carved out green spaces that provide unique gathering areas for the community and offer naturally pleasing walking paths for exercisers.

Refrigerator empty? Eat healthy anyway
Not motivated to cook? A healthy meal is only a walk away. With one daily meal of your choice included in the affordable monthly service package,  homeowners at Highland Springs can forget worrying about what’s for supper.

Delicious, nutritious meals are served daily. The Cotton Belt Cafe serves excellent meals in a casual setting while Chisholm’s Restaurant offers full-service dining in a more formal setting.

Add up the benefits of a no-excuse lifestyle
Highland Springs makes it easy to adopt an active lifestyle, a factor that has been proven to improve quality of life. The National Institute on Aging says that “when people lose their abilities to do things on their own, it doesn’t happen just because they have aged. More likely it is because they have become inactive.”

Data accumulated by Erickson Communities, the developer of Highland Springs, in their 24 years of focus on full-service, maintenance-free living, testifies to the validity of this statement.

Erickson research shows that about 1 in 4 Americans will need nursing care at some point in their life. At an Erickson community, only about 1 in 13 will need such care. Additionally, hospital usage by people who live in Erickson  communities is a mere one-third of the national average.
