THE ERICKSON TRIBUNE

Energy and excitement were the hallmarks of the day when more than 500 residents, guests, and Erickson employees celebrated the Grand Opening of Highland Springs on Wednesday, September 20. The North Dallas community is Erickson’s 17th nationally, and second in Texas.

Showcasing the amenities of the newly-opened community, Highland Springs was open for touring during the celebration. Visitors could be found roaming throughout the Hillcrest Clubhouse, checking out the Medical Center, admiring the all-season pool and spa, sizing up the Fitness Center, not to mention exploring the creative arts studio, game rooms, and restaurants.

On the grounds, visitors enjoyed their first glimpse of the landscaped courtyards, toured the large community greenhouse, and paused under the gazebo to listen to the breeze rustling through towering willows by the pond.

Worth Celebrating
A day of smiles and warm wishes, the festivities kicked off in mid morning when visitors and guests were greeted with the mellow tunes of a barbershop quartet.

Erickson founder and CEO John Erickson, members of his family, and top executives were on hand to celebrate the occasion and welcome the residents to a new lifestyle.

Erickson noted the day for its beginnings, inviting everyone to embrace the opportunity and promise of Highland Springs. “It’s wonderful to have an opportunity to celebrate this new beginning with the people of Dallas who made it possible,” Erickson told reporters. “I am just delighted to be here.”

After introducing family members and corporate executives whose contributions made this auspicious day possible, Erickson saluted the first residents of Highland Springs — the Pioneers who were the first to recognize the value of this unique new lifestyle.

“Those of us at Erickson know, in our hearts and our minds, that the lifestyle at Highland Springs brings a spirit of belonging that is unique. Living fully at Highland Springs is all about moving forward and being eager to discover and enjoy life to its best.”

Bringing Balance and Peace of Mind
Highland Springs is the first community in Dallas to offer maintenance- free, full-service living in a gated campus connected by climate controlled walkways, plus the added protection of Erickson’s unique 100% Refundable Entrance Deposit.

“Every day, when I walk around Highland Springs, I am reminded of the real pleasures of everyday life,” said Chris Emmett, executive director. “People greeting each other with a smile and a hello, taking time to appreciate friends and neighbors. When lunch tastes good, and when days are filled with pleasantries and activities and serenity. I am so pleased to be a part of this community and to help bring the Erickson lifestyle to Dallas.”

The ambiance at Highland Springs offers a small-town, Texas-friendly life for residents. With a social life and hospitality that’s open to all, a choice of dining options, and a variety of venues in which to share talents and capabilities, everything is here under one roof, ready and waiting.

Additionally, Highland Springs has a Medical Center with a newly appointed, full-time physician, Dr. William Featherston (see related story on page 10), a bank branch, indoor swimming pool and spa, fully equipped Fitness Center, walking paths, and more.

Central to the philosophy of Highland Springs is the attention to a sense of well being that residents enjoy. Tucked behind a decorative fence, the community features a gatehouse that is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Visitors are required to stop before entering and register with the security guard.

A Greener Thumb
Unique among Erickson communities is the state-ofthe- art 1,350-square-foot Highland Springs greenhouse. Fully enclosed by glass, the greenhouse will provide a venue for the residents who are gardeners, providing an indoor tropical environment outfitted with utility benches and shelves that will facilitate gardening without extensive bending.

Designed to let the sunshine in and keep the weather out, the greenhouse allows for comfortable, yearround gardening. And best of all, with the maintenance handled by Highland Springs, it’s like gardening with a clean-up crew. No more worrying about upkeep or equipment.

To the south, just a stone’s throw away from Highland Springs, and accessible through a shared gate, is the CommunityGarden developed in partnership with Texas A&M Dallas Agricultural Research and Extension Center (TAMU-Dallas). Here, residents will be able to establish gardens of their own and take advantage of the horticultural specialists at TAMU-Dallas.

A Social Centerpiece
The Hillcrest Clubhouse serves as the living room of the new community, welcoming residents and visitors with comfortable couches and armchairs, tables for games, a big screen for movies, and a warming fireplace.

Connected to every apartment home via climate- controlled walkways, the clubhouse also houses both the casual Cotton Belt Café and the more formal Chilsholm’s restaurant, as well as a convenience store, full-service bank branch, hair salon and day spa, and an information desk that’s manned around the clock.

True Texas Hospitality
While the day was filled with warm wishes and welcome, the sounds of fun and festivities also were heard in every corner of the new community. A bluegrass/jazz trio performed in the Fireside Lounge; a pianist entertained guests sampling desserts in the Cotton Belt Café; and around the pool, visitors swayed to the tropical rhythms of a Caribbean steel drum band.

No Texas shindig is complete without great food, and the fare at this opening party was grand indeed. Guests were treated to a taste of delicacies from all over the globe. From sizzling fajitas to stir-fried Asian to good ’ol Texas barbecue, each station was manned with servers costumed to match their specialty.

Seeing Is Believing
